Pszczyna is one of Poland's most beautiful and best-preserved historic cities. Known as the Pearl of Upper Silesia, it was not destroyed during World War II, which means it retains its original character and historic appearance to this day. If you're planning a weekend trip in Poland – Pszczyna should be on your list.
The Castle (Palace) – a Must-See
Without a doubt, the biggest attraction is the Pszczyna Castle, though it is technically a palace. Its roots go back to the 11th–12th century, when Piast dukes established a watchtower and hunting lodge here.
The final neo-Baroque form was given to it in 1870–1876 by French architect Hippolyte Alexandre Destailleur – hence the nickname "the Polish Versailles". What makes the Castle Museum truly special is that 70% of its furnishings are original – not destroyed or looted, unlike most Polish castles.

The Market Square & Old Town
The central point of Pszczyna is the market square with its medieval urban layout. It is surrounded by 18th–19th century townhouses now housing charming cafés and restaurants.
Around the square, don't miss:
- The Evangelical Church (1907) – bright, neo-Baroque interior with an interesting history tied to the Hochberg family
- The Town Hall – one of the oldest buildings, with a ground floor dating from 1658
- The All Saints Church – the "mother of all Pszczyna churches", with 17th-century stained glass and a late-Baroque altar
Don't miss the Princess Daisy Bench – commemorating English aristocrat Maria Teresa Olivia Hochberg von Pless, who became an icon of the city.
Pszczyna Historic Park – 156 Hectares of Green
One of the most beautiful parks in Silesia. It stretches across 156 hectares and consists of three parts:
- Castle Park (48 ha) – ponds, canals, ancient trees, rhododendrons blooming in spring
- Deer Park ("Wild Promenade") – wilder, forest character
- Station Park – along the Pszczynka river
The European Bison Reserve
Pszczyna boasts something truly unique – a bison herd that has been here since 1865. These animals are ancestors of many bison living in the wild today. The reserve is open year-round – a great attraction for both adults and children.

How to get there?
Pszczyna is in the Silesian voivodeship, about 50 km from Katowice. Accessible by train or car via the A1 motorway.
How much time to plan?
At least one full day, but two days will let you explore everything at a leisurely pace.
Where to eat?
The market square and surroundings offer dozens of restaurants and cafés serving Silesian and European cuisine. Make sure to stop at the "Daisy" Teahouse in the park.
